| Description | Rix states that he was feeling unwell the previous day, and so was unable to attend the "At Home" in the evening, though he has heard that the numbers were below 100, slightly lower than on the previous occasion, but all the Fellows were in the smoking room and seemed interested. The most important Council matters were deferred, and it was ordered that next time Standing Orders 10-27 should be taken, and should be printed and circulated beforehand, though nothing was done yesterday.
Four invitations for Lord Leighton's funeral have been sent to them, and have been taken by Sir John Evans, Major MacMahon, Professor Kennedy, and Mr [Joseph Norman] Lockyer, though Lockyer has passed his on to Professor [Edwin Ray] Lankester. Rix believes the Officers have assumed Foster would be too unwell to attend, but he asks if this is the case and what he should do. The President, Joseph Lister, is going through an independent invitation.
William Turner Thiselton Dyer wishes to know the precise function of the term "House" in the House and Soiree Committee, but Rix has found no authoritative statement in the Council Minutes, so has put it down for the next meeting of the Officers. |
