| Description | Rox reports that he opened Lord Rayeleigh's note on receipt of Foster's note, and states that omitting Gamgee and Walker leaves only three papers, two of which have been marked as doubtful by Rayleigh, so he has announced only one paper - a new Argen paper by Professor Ramsay. Unfortunately, it is 7 or 8 pages, so Rix needs Foster's permission to break the rule and set it up for the meeting.
He also recalls an 'unpleasant thing' which occurred the previous day, namely that William Turner Thiselton Dyer arrived as Chairman of the Soiree Committee and was ready to take the chair, when the President also arrived and 'in all innocence' took the chair instead as the Statute obliges him to. Dyer is reported to have gone 'home in a huff'.
Rix is glad to hear Foster is recovering, and reports that there are two Catalogue staff away due to illness. He further states that five of his immediate circle of friends are suffering from cases of bronchial catarrh.
A postscript notes that Dr Armstrong has put off the International Catalogue Committee, as they are to have a Delta-boring Committee next Thursday instead. |
