| Description | Rix has Foster's note, and will try to get the amended slip out that day, but he suggests that Foster has misunderstood the intention of chapter seven, section one, and that he cannot be serious about the President being consulted about every committee summoned. He clarifies the words which appear on Council summons indicate that the President has been consulted, and states that these do not appear on committee summonses.
Lockyer is dissatisfied about his place and irritated that Rix did not write to Foster sooner, hence Rix's wire to Foster.
Dr Pye-Smith and Lord Rosse will be attending. He has telegraphed Professor Roberts Austen to settle these matters, and suggests that Foster leave it to him to sort as otherwise they will be working at cross purposes.
Rix awaits news from Foster about the toast list, as no one is yet settled but Sir George Gabriel Stokes. An important communication from the Solar Eclipse Committee is being put on next Saturday's agenda by Rix.
Rix had assumed that the Council would meet on the first Thursday in December, as has been the practice during Lord Kelvin's presidency, but summoning a Council is noted as problematic before they have been elected.
He states that Dr Sclater has sent Foster some Iris bulbs which Rix is keeping in a drawer for him, and asks to be reminded to give them to him in case he forgets during the Anniversary rush.
In a postscript, Rix notes that as the applications for Government Grant are sent in a month earlier, he is going to advertise at the beginning of December rather than January. Nothing has been done yet concerning the arrangements of applications. |
