Date20 February 1896
DescriptionFrankland informs the secretary of the Academy of Sciences, Paris, that in 1893 a portion of the fund raised by international subscription as a memorial to Dr James Prescott Joule was transferred to the Royal Society to found a Joule studentship, and the President and Council adopted certain regulations for administering the proceeds, namely 1, 2, and 3 from the 7 December 1893 Council Minutes.

He further explains that the value of the studentship is £50 per annum, tenable for two years, and that the first award was made by a Royal Society committee in June 1894, with the next due in June 1896. In accordance with the third regulation, he is instructed to offer it for award to the Academie des Sciences, Paris. They wish to know whether the Academy is willing to undertake this duty.
