TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Charles Chree, Kew Observatory, Richmond, Surrey
Date2 December 1895
DescriptionRix responds to Chree's letter of 27 November to report that the Treasurer, John Evans, authorises him to say that if the repairs to the pendulum are not too heavy the Royal Society will bear the expense. Work may be begun at once and Chree can let them know the cost when it is done.

With regard to Chree's response to Melbourne, Evans thinks he should answer in a provisional manner, for example that Evans hopes the cost of repairs will be so small that he need not trouble them to refund the expenses.
