| Description | Rix sends 'A warming note!' stating that the International Catalogue work is such a heavy burden that he is uncertain whether it can be completed. He states his staff are already 'distinctly out of sorts', and there is no prospect of their catching their trains tomorrow night, so they will have to travel on Good Friday. He fears that they are as near 'breaking down' as he has known, and this is in addition to the heaviest work of the year, with Soiree work behind schedule as a consequence.
Rix has himself been working until 10pm every night since the previous Friday. He suggests that Foster, during the recess, looks to hire a working secretary to the Congress, as otherwise he fears a 'general collapse' when the May and June rush combine with the fact that the new Assistant Secretary will just have started. He speculates that there will be some young scientific men who would do the work for the 'honour of it'. |
