| Description | Foster is glad the bacteriological items sent from the Society reached safely.
Wishes to know if Tsetse Fly is in Poole's district and if so whether he can make some observations. Sends herewith a copy of a report by Surgeon Major Bruce [not attached] which shows that horses et cetera that die after a tsetse bite, die from a hemozoin which seems to be introduced by the fly.
The Society have formed a Committee to report on the subject and though Bruce has made a great step much remains to be done.
Sends a memorandum by Blandford and Kanthcak regarding the identity of Tsetse with Surra disease in India [not attached].
Wonders if there is any part of the investigation that Poole can take up. The areas in which the Tsetse fly is found is so strictly defined that there must be some special conditions for their life, which must be in some way be connected to big game. |
