TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to the Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office
Date11 August 1896
DescriptionIn reply to the Under Secretary's letter of 7th August, 16139/96, Foster is directed to ask the Under Secretary to thank Mr Secretary Chamberlain on behalf of the Royal Society for the suggestion that copies of the Acts of the International Conference should be sent to the responsible governments in the Colonies which did not accept the invitation to be represented. The Society hesitated to take steps in this direction on their own initiative though they are endeavouring to secure that the Proceedings of the Conference should be made known in the countries in question by privately sending copies of the acts to learned bodies and individual men of science.

Thanks Mr Sectary for his offer to send copies of the acts to the above governments and 30 copies for that purpose are herewith enclosed [not attached]. Expresses regret at the inadvertent omission of Dr David Gill's correct title. The correction will be immediately made.
