| Description | The Society has arranged two expeditions, one to Japan, the other to Norway, to observe the approaching solar eclipse. The Lords of Admiralty have promised to afford valuable help to the Norway expedition by giving directions that a ship of war of Her Majesty's Training Squadron should convey a party of observers to the south of the Varangerfjord.
Foster is directed to express the hope of the President and Council that Her Majesty's Government may feel willing to communicate with the Norwegian Government with the view of such facilities being offered to the observing party as may be required. In particular in the case of its being found impossible to secure an observing station close to the shore, it may be desirable to form a camp some little way inland and Foster is to suggest that the permission of the Norwegian Government to do this should be obtained. |
