TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Michael Foster, Secretary, Royal Society
Date6 October 1896
DescriptionHarrison has been going through the papers ready, subject to the receipt of the proofs from [Michael] Foster, for number 361 of the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' with Mr White, and the question of the index slips occurs with 'some force'. Harrison does not see how the revision and editing of these slips can be undertaken in the office. The regular work of the place more than occupies the time of himself and the staff and the responsibility of this task is one that it does not seem fair to impose on the staff. That such severe revision is necessary Foster will see from the enclosed specimen of [William] Rutherford's [paper, not attached], which from an indexing point of view is 'obvisouly absurd', and is one of half a dozen which go to form the next number of the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]'. The publication of the number will be delayed if the slip is to be prepared in time to go out with it. Harrison shall be glad to hear from Foster that he may get the number out without waiting for the slips at all.
