TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Edwin Ray Lankester, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date28 November 1896
DescriptionIn reply to Lankester's note just received, the wording of the resolution Lankester complains of relating to the Darwin Medal, is in accordance with what Harrison is told is regular practice and copied from the resolution of proposal which appeared in the Council Minutes of 2 July. The authority for the resolution appears to have been a manuscript note in Lankesters' own hand in which identical words are used, followed by the statement as to termites and eels as examples of his discoveries. The most that has happened therefore is abbreviation, which is common with all other proposals in the minutes. The full statement of claims on which the adjudication of medals is made is printed and sent round separately.

Harrison cannot find the mistake of 'J' appearing instead of 'G' as Grassi's initial anywhere except in a first proof of the meeting notice, which Harrison corrected before it was printed.
