Date4 January 1897
Description'Dear Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 21st December addressed to my predecessor here, Mr Herbert Rix, I regret to, have to say that "The English Dialect Dictionary" is not the class of book that the Royal Society's Library would have any place for, and that, owing to want of space, the Library has to be strictly confined to works relating to Natural Science.
I am, Dear Sir, faithfully yours,
Robt Harrison
Asst. Sec. & Librar. R.S. [Assistant Secretary and Librarian, Royal Society]'.
