TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Walter Gardiner, Fellow of the Royal Society, Clare College, Cambridge
Date14 December 1896
DescriptionTheodore E James has mentioned to Harrison that when Gardiner was at the Anniversary Meeting he showed him a counterfoil in his cheque book for a cheque for £2-2, presumably drawn for two dinner cards. Unfortunately, Harrison cannot trace a receipt.

He explains that on 17 November they received Gardiner's telegram stating that he would attend the dinner and bring a guest and so the names were put down, and that a few days later a circular was sent to him as a reminder of non-payment in addition to personal reminders from James on Anniversary day. His guest's name was entered on the counterfoil, but could only be printed as 'Mr Gardiner's Guest' as they had not heard from him since the telegram.

He asks for confirmation that Gardiner's cheque has passed through the bank, as Harrison is anxious to close the account with the Hotel Metropole but he is two guineas short.
