TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Michael Foster, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date17 March 1897
DescriptionHarrison thanks Foster for his note and telegram. Major [Percy Alexander] MacMahon has agreed to go to the funeral [of James Joseph Sylvester]. Professor [Arthur William] Rucker cannot but has written to Professor [Alfred George] Greenhill and Harrison has sent a note to Sir John Evans. On the strength of Foster's letter Harrison is sending a note to Professor Forsyth of the time and place, and also to the President [Sir Joseph Lister] who, however, Harrison thinks is not anxious to attend. Harrison has put the matter early on the agenda for tomorrow [Council Meeting].

Harrison is reminded that the Buchanan Medal, first awarded in 1894 to Lady Buchanan, is directed to be awarded every three or five years. He has put the matter on the Council agenda to consider awarding it this year. The regulations for the medal are not in the 'Year-book' and he has made a note to add them to the next edition unless Foster instructs him otherwise. Presumes the conditions of the other Medals have been left out, or perhaps they are in the 'Record'.
