TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Sir William James Lloyd Wharton, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date27 March 1897
Description[William Henry Mahoney] Christie has addressed the enclosed letter [not attached] to the President [Lord Joseph Lister]. Rucker saw Christie yesterday and told him that Wharton would wish that all deference should be paid to his opinions and would probably be willing to call another meeting of the Committee if he decreed it. Christie said he did not care to reopen the matter unless there was a reasonable chance that the Society could pull the matter up in earnest. Rucker pointed out that everybody including Adams, who sympathizes with him, voted for the resolution.

It is however right that Wharton should see the letter and take his own course with respect to it. Thinks it might be desirable for Wharton to write to Christie and get from him a statement of the facts. Supposes some notice will have to be taken of Christie's letter when they report to the Council and it would simplify matters if they were able to assure Council that Christie had no grievance.

The Royal Society of Canada have received their [the Royal Society's] letter and urge action.
