TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Edmund James Mills, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date1 April 1897
DescriptionWith further reference to Mills' note of the 26th March, acknowledged on Saturday, the certificate of Mr MacArthur as a candidate for Fellowship was received at the Society but not until after the date prescribed by the statues for the proposal of candidates to the Society. In the special circumstances of the detention of MacArthur's certificate abroad, Harrison submitted the case for the special consideration of Council but they decided it was not in their power to depart from the definite provision of the statues. The certificate therefore will be valid for the candidature of Mr MacArthur at next year's election. Harrison will be glad to know if under the circumstances, Mills wishes to have the certificate back for the purpose of obtaining more signatures before it is read to the Society, as after is has been read it cannot leave the house.
