TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Doctor Johannes Bosscha, Haarlem
Date2 April 1897
DescriptionHarrison owes Bosscha many apologies for the long delay in replying to his letter, received at the Society on 25th January. Harrison has been much pressed with work.

He has looked up the letter of Constantyn Huyghens to Oldenburgh of the 29th March 1675 and finds that the copy in the book contains no more of the quotation from Christiaan's letter than Bosscha already has in his copy, and as the Society has none of Christiaan's own letters to his father, Harrison fears he cannot help recover the missing paragraph sought.

The Society does have a copy of the pamphlet 'Nouvelles Experiences de Vuide'. Harrison would be happy to place it at Bosscha's disposal for consultation if he or anyone he knows were in England but he is not at liberty to send the volume abroad without the special permission of Council. If Bosscha wishes for this to be asked for, Harrison will do so.

As a post script Harrison notes that among the letter the Society has, immediately preceeding the letter from Constantyn mentioned, is an English translation by Constantyn of the letter from his son, written in answer to Hooke on the subject of the circular pendulum, and to which the letter quoted on 29th March 1875 refers. Harrison would be happy to send a copy of this if desired.
