DescriptionFoster is informed by the joint Permanent Eclipse Committee that it is necessary that the observing parties for the Eclipse of January 1898 should secure their passages at the earliest possible moment and, having regard to the necessity of their taking return tickets in order to save expense, it is most desirable to know which port the Expedition should make for. Asks if Her Majesty's ship will pick up the Expedition at Bombay or Colombo about the first week in January.

In view of the possible re-outbreak of plague in the cold weather, Colombo would seem to be the more convenient port, especially with the view of diminishing the risk of quarantine on the return journey. Trusts the Lords will make the necessary enquiries by telegraph.
