TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to the Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office, S.W.
Date3 August 1897
DescriptionIn reply to the Under Secretary's letter of 28th July (15042/97), Foster is directed to reply that the President and Council, while they cannot help regretting that Surgeon Major [David] Bruce should not be able to continue his investigations, at the same time agree that the prospects of any distinct practical remedy resulting from the immediate continuance of Surgeon Major Bruce's labours are very remote. They therefore cannot fail to agree in Mr Chamerbalin's decision that Bruce should return to military duty.

The Committee of the Royal Society will continue the investigation so far as it is possible for them to do so in England, and should they arrive at any result of promise, Foster shall at once communicate with Chamberlain.
