DescriptionThe Council of the Royal Society regrets that it is not able to sanction the funds voted by the Government Grant Committee for an expedition to the Cape de Verde Islands, for the purpose of an expedition to Socotra. Council think Grant's new proposal should be brought before the Government Grant Committee in 1898 in the usual way.

Includes 'cancelled' letter to same recipient of the same date.
