DescriptionDirected by the President and Council of the Royal Society to inform that the Committee, appointed by the Royal Society to superintend the Kew Observatory, have reported that a bill is about to be brought before Parliament authorizing the construction of Electric Tramways in the neighbourhood of Kew.

Advises that, unless special precautions are taken, the electric currents produced are likely to injure or destroy the action of the self-registering magnetic instruments which have been installed in the Observatory for many years. Details will be communicated but the President and Council desire it to be known that the Committee is acting with their approval. The Observatory is situated on Crown Land in a building belonging to the Government. It is Central Observing Station for the Meteorological Council which is supported by State funds.
