Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to Professor Sydney J Hickson, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 21 March 1898 |
Description | Is writing in detail concerning the decision of the Council regarding the papers by Ashworth and Gamble & Ashworth. Both papers were considered by Committee and the decisions were confirmed by the Council.
Regarding the paper by Gamble & Ashworth, on 'The Giant-cells in the Nerve-Cord of Arenicola', the Committee did not think that the authors brought adequate evidence for the arrangement which they described. The Committee think it best not to accept the paper so that the authors might reinvestigate the matter and obtain more conclusive evidence.
Regarding the paper by Ashworth on 'The Stomodoeum, Mesenterial Filaments and Endoderm of Xenia', the Committee did not consider the subject of the paper of sufficient importance to be published. They recommend that it is not accepted but retained by the [Royal] Society. The Committee believe that if Sydney wished to publish the observation as it stands it should be published elsewhere and that the Society would consider its publication when further research had been done. |
