TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Joseph Chamberlain, H.M. Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies
Date6 April 1898
DescriptionReferring to Professor Foster's letter of 15 August 1895 relating to the subject of a proposed International Catalogue of Scientific Literature, Harrison forwards copies of a report upon the subject, drawn up by a Committee appointed by the Royal Society. This was at the request of the International Conference which was held at the Summer of 1896. Requests that copies are sent to the several Colonial Governments which took part in the Conference.

The Royal Society Committee think that the International Convention should meet again for the purpose of considering the report and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs is being approached with a view to such a Convention being summoned for this year. Please therefore invite the several Colonial Governments to appoint delegates at an International Conference, with powers to authorize the establishment of an organization for the conduct of the Catalogue.

The Governments of the following Colonies accepted invitations to the International Catalogue Conference of 1896:
Canada
Cape Colony
Natal
New South Wales
New Zealand
