| Description | With reference to Rucker's letter of February 10, the Committee appointed by the Royal Society to superintend the Kew Observatory have reported that application is being made to the Board of Trade under the 'Light Railways Act' by the 'London United Tramways Company' for powers to construct two electical tramways in the neighbourhood of the Kew Observatory. These schemes are different to the ones referred to in his previous letter. It is possible that magnetic effects very prejudicial to the work of the Observaotry may be produced from these two lines unless proper precautions are taken.
Acknowledges the assistance which the Kew Observatory Committee have received as a result of the letter sent by Rucker. Hopes that the latest issue can be dealt with in a similar way. |
