TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr W T Blanford, Fellow of the Royal Society, Chairman of Government Grant Board D
Date15 June 1898
DescriptionBlanford's letter to Dr Foster relating to the application from Sir Martin Conway has made Harrison doubt whether Foster has referred another application on which the Council desired Blanford's opinion. The application in question is from Major A St. H Gibbons for a grant in aid of his expedition to Central Africa, in the region of the Upper Zambezi and the Congo. He has already received grants from the Geographical Society, the Minitary Intelligence Division and the British South Africa Company and the rest he is paying for privately. He is taking with him Captain Boyd Alexander as Ornothologist (with an assistant) and Dr C J Smith for entonomoligical collections. The rest of the expedition are surveyors and explorers.

The Royal Society are unwilling to give him the requested £500 assigned from the Government Grant Committee unless there was a very strong reason. Asks for Blanford's thoughts.
