TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Joseph Larmor, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date18 July 1898
DescriptionExplains why he thinks it very desirable that more stress should be laid upon anything which [George Francis] Fitzgerald has done in the last ten years. Royal Medals are confined to work done within that period. The theory of repulsion from the surface of the magnetized medium in the 1879 paper is not quite complete in that the notation[?] of the ellipse is not dealt with in some cases. [Augusto] Righi has criticized the work from this point of view and Rucker thinks J J Thomson and others have gone beyond it.

Has directed that copies of his paperwork for Kon[?] and Righi shall be sent to Larmor and shall be obliged by Larmor's remarks. Hopes he has done Righi justice but was a little disappointed in going over his work. It is of a high class but difficult to pick out many very striking points and during the last two years he can find little except Rontgen ray work as good as, but no better than that of many others.
