| Description | The Treasury has written a formal letter asking the Society to undertake the management of the National Physical Laboratory, offering an endowment of £4,000 a year and £12,000 for building, fittings et cetera. It is suggested that the payments now made by the Meteorological Council to Kew cease in future.
Has reason to believe that although the question of the relation of Kew to the Meteorological Council may be open to discussion, the offer of the Government in other respects, represents the maximum sum they are likely to devote to the laboratory at present. This is considerably below the figure named by the members of the Committee and Rucker feels sure the Council would be aided in coming to a decision if the recipients would inform him whether they think that if no more can be obtained, the Society had better accept the offer. |
