TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to the General Secretary of the British Association
Date29 November 1898
DescriptionA Committee consisting of Fellows of the Royal Society acting in conjunction with representatives of the Royal Geographical Society was formed some time ago to consider the steps that should be taken to organize an expedition to the Antarctic regions.

An appeal to Government has met with no encouragement and the RGS has consequently taken steps for raising a fund for an expedition by private subscription. The Society hopes to contribute to this through the Government Grant for Scientific Research. The following resolutions were passed at a recent meeting of the Antarctic Committee; that the Treasurer of the Royal Society be requested to apply to the Government Grant Committee for a grant of £1000 in aid of an expedition, and that an application also be made to the Council of the British Association for a grant of £1000 for the same purpose. Asks for these resolutions to be laid before the council of the British Association.
