TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to S E Spring-Rice
Date12 December 1898
DescriptionRucker reported his conversation with Spring-Rice to the Committee and was desired to ask whether there is any objection on the part of the Treasury to use buildings in the Deer Park on an annual lease.

The feeling of the Committee seems to be that as the possibility of carrying on the extended work of the [Kew] Observatory would entirely depend on a grant to be voted annually by Parliament, the Society's position would not, in reality, be less secure if the Society were using the buildings on an annual lease. The Committee of course understands that there is an important distinction between Crown Land and other Park Property.

The Committee thought that the Office of Works had better erect the buildings for the outside repairs of which they would be responsible. There are several other points Rucker would like to discuss with Spring-Rice and he could call on Wednesday afternoon, any time before 3.30.
