DescriptionThe report of the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee transmitted by Hills was laid before Council and at the same meeting the representatives of the Royal Society on the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee were reappointed to hold office provisionally, until such time as the President and Council might determine.

The Committee was reappointed in order that there might be no break in its work. Explains why the appointment was made provisional. Lists the names of the representatives of the Royal Society on the Joint Committee; Captain Abney, Mr W H M Christie, Dr A A Common, Sir W Huggins, Sir J N Lockyer, Major P A MacMahon, Professor A Schuster, Dr G J Stoney, General Tennant, and Admiral Sir J W L Wharton.
