DescriptionThe biennial award of the Joule Studentship has been made by the Council of the Royal Society to Barnes, to aid him in pursuing an investigation into the specific heat of water in terms of the electrical units, and the variation of the specific heat over the whole range 0-100 degrees centigrade.

The Studentship is of the value of £100. Asks Barnes to write a progress report of his research at the end of the first year's work.
