TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Sir Michael Foster, Secretary, Royal Society
Date11 July 1899
DescriptionIs sorry to hear Foster is unwell. Encloses letters which arrived this morning [not enclosed].

Dr Blanford came in this afternoon to try to see Foster. Their general conversation was that some care will be necessary to avoid friction between the two Societies [Royal Society and Royal Geographical Society] which would be very damaging to the whole scheme of the [Antarctic] Expedition. Has reason to believe Sir Clements Markham is 'very touchy' about anything being done by the joint Committee in his absence and seems to have gone away with the idea that there was an understanding that there should be no meeting of the Joint Committee until his return in October.

In the meantime Sub-Committees are being summoned and meeting and Keltie is running 'the whole business so far as official work is concerned. If Foster considers anything urgently should be done he could write tomorrow in the meantime Foster will lie low and await instruction.

Harrison showed the enclosed letters to Professor [Arthur William] Rucker.
