Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to the Secretary of the Royal Scottish Geological Society |
Date | 31 July 1899 |
Description | With reference to the Secretary's letter of the 28th, the Joint Antarctic Committee is appointed by the Royal Society and Royal Geographical Society acting together. Since both Societies are in vacation no formal reply to the Secretary's letter can be made immediately. Foster has sent a copy of the Secretary's paper to the RGS and will bring the matter before the Council of the Royal Society at its next meeting in October.
Meanwhile Foster ventures to say that the Society will be cordially disposed towards the proposal that the Royal Geological Society should be in some way recognized on the Committee, and assist in the deliberations which will guide the expedition. Wonders if this could be secured by the recognition of any of the member of the existing Committee, of which he encloses a copy, as representatives of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, or whether he desires to add new members. Thinks the Council of the Society would like to be informed on this point before they meet in October. |
