TitleCopy letter from Theodore E James, to Messrs Robarts, Lubbock & Company
Date19 September 1899
DescriptionA cheque has been drawn by the Treasurer [Alfred Bray Kempe] on the Scientific Relief Fund, payable to A M Bell of Oxford. As the cheque had to be sent abroad for signature it was crossed 'Messrs Robarts, & Co' for the sake of safety.

Bell informs them that the cheque is not negotiable in Oxford because of this crossing and suggests the Society send him another but James thinks there is no necessity for this if the Messrs will negotiate the matter. Encloses Bell's letter in further explanation [not enclosed].
