TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to the Secretary to Her Majesty's Treasury
Date11 December 1899
DescriptionThe Meteorological Council have brought to the knowledge of the President and Council of the Royal Society, that they have provisionally, and subject to the approval of the Council of the Royal Society, approved of the resignation of their Secretary, Mr R H Scott, as from 1 January 1900. The Meteorological Council wish to assign Scott on his resignation a yearly pension of £400, which is half his present salary and the President and Council of the Royal Society support this

The Meteorological Council think the best selection for a new Secretary would be Mr W N Shaw FRS. According to a letter addressed to the President of the Royal Society by the Secretary to the Treasury at the time when the Meteorological Council was placed on its present basis, all new officers of the Meteorological Council would be appointed, paid and removed at its discretion. It would not therefore be necessary to bring the appointment of a Secretary to Her Majesty's Treasury's notice, were it not for the fact that the Council wish to make changes in their Constitution as settled in 1877 by Treasury.

Discusess how Shaw's salary should be paid for.
