DescriptionFurther to Pauncefote forwarding a letter from the United States Minister Mr Phelps on 31 March, and Foster's response that the matter had been referred to the Royal Society Library on 30 April. Foster is able to announce that a meeting of the Council on 21 June resolved, on the recommendation of the Library Committee, to place the US Patent Office on the list of institutions entitled to receive, at no cost, the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' and 'Proceedings of the Royal Society', as issued.

The gift will contain volume 169 of 'Transactions' (1878) and volume 26 of 'Proceedings' (1877) with the volumes to the present time, and in to the future. The parcel will be delivered to the Smithsonian Institute unless they are instructed otherwise.
