TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster [Royal Society]
Date18 October 1888
DescriptionUpdates regarding matters of Royal Society business.

Rix has written to George Gabriel Stokes, President of the Royal Society about the "Soirée" Committee, by which he assumes Foster means the committee meeting for arranging the anniversary dinner.
Rix agrees that names proposed for medals need only be by a two-thirds vote, but that he has only written on the card that which has always been written there, noting that the necessity of the two-thirds vote is shown in the printed procedure enclosed with the summonses. The final decision is to take place on the first Thursday in November.
The Board of Trade letter is about the 'Lighthouse Illuminants', but Rix did not mention it, believing it to be prudent to keep the matter quiet.
