TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to the Marquis de Caligny, 18 Rue de l'Orangerie, Versailles, France
Date19 January 1889
DescriptionThe Marquis' letter of 29 December arrived when the Royal Society was in recess. With regard to his query about books, Rix finds that they do have 'Sul moto ondoso del mare &c', and would be glad to receive the note that he has written about it. The Society is grateful for the Marquis' memoires which he has presented to their library.

On the matter of his candidature Rix states that the number of Foreign Members of the Royal Society is limited to 50, and vacancies rarely occur. He will take the letter to the Society chiefs though.
