| Description | In reply to the Superintendent's letter of 22nd January, Harrison does not find in the minutes of the Royal Society any reference to the appointment of Messrs Mason and Dixon to survey the boundary line between Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Encloses a copy of portions of the Council Minutes of 24th October 1766, containing resolutions appointing Mason and Dixon to carry out the measurement of a degree of longitude in American in the neighborhood of Pennsylvania. The minutes contain copies of letters from Lord Baltimore and Thomas Penn, 7th November 1765, agreeing that when Mason and Dixon had finished running the line between Maryland and Pennsylvania they should be at liberty to attend the service of the Royal Society. |
