TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Leonard Huxley, the Charterhouse, Godalming
Date17 February 1900
DescriptionWith reference to Huxley's letter of 29th January, Harrison has consulted Sir John Murray who suggests Huxley consult the introduction to the summary volumes of the 'Challenger' Report. From this and the Society's minutes, it appears the publication of the report concluded in 1895 and included 50 royal quarto volumes to which there were 76 contributors. The cost of production is a more difficult question to answer but judging from references in the Minutes of the 'Challenger' Committee, he cannot account for any sum approaching the figure of £80,000 which Huxley mentioned. Harrison does not think it would be more than £30,000, but does not wish that quoted as an authoritative statement.
