DescriptionReplies to the Under Secretary's letter of 9th February, 36275/99 enclosing a copy of the report of the Malaria Expedition of the liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a memorandum thereupon by the Governor of Sierra Leone and, of another by Dr Prout, asking for the opinion of the Malaria Committee on the suggestions made therein.

Replies under five numbered bullet points:
The Committee distinctly approve of the proposal that pools serving as breeding places of Anopheles be cleared, but would not advise large expenditure for this purpose as breeding does not appear limited to these pools.
Pouring kerosene or similar fluids upon such pools may be useful but cannot be much relied on.
Explains why the Committee cannot too strongly insist on the advisability of protection from the bites of anopheles.
The Committee do not feel confidence in the mere difference of altitude being a security against attacks of malaria.
The Committee think inhabitants of malarious districts should be taught that an attack of malaria is in most if not all cases the result of a bite of an infected anopheles. A person suffering from malaria is an infectious person.
