TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to H J Chaney, Standards Department, Board of Trade
Date12 January 1900
DescriptionWith reference to Chaney's letter of the 4th, Harrison has searched through the minutes of the Society about the period Chaney mentions for any record of the French Assembly approaching the Royal Society with a view to joint action in fixing a standard unit of measure, but has found nothing in the ordinary books of reference. The subject of standards was evidently in the air about that time, from references in the Minutes, but he can find no trace of any actual communication with the then French Government. Welcomes Chaney or a delegate to come and further examine the records.
