TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Arthur Schuster, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date27 June 1900
DescriptionThe Physics and Chemistry Committee had before them at their last meeting the enclosed letter from Sir Norman Lockyer [not enclosed], written in reply to a communication to Lockyer of the decision of the Council which in effect bore out Schuster's recommendation in his report of March, on Lockyer's paper on the total eclipse of 1898.

The letter was referred by Council to the Sectional Committee and they have directed Harrison to forward the letter, with the paper, for Schuster's opinion as to whether the paper should be published in the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]', in view of Lockyer's arguments. A preliminary account of these same observations was published in the 'Proceedings', volume 64, page 27. Also encloses Schuster's original report on the paper [not enclosed], and asks for a reply by next Monday, in time for a special meeting of the Sectional Committee on Tuesday.
