TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Captain Edmond Herbert Grove-Hills, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date12 July 1900
DescriptionIn reply to Hills' of the 9 July, enclosing a memorandum relating to help from the Survey Department of India for the 1901 eclipse, Harrison believes Hills already knows that in pursuance of his earlier request, Sir M Foster wrote privately to Sir Charles Bernard to ascertain whether the Indian Government would sanction the desired assistance being given, and received a reply the other day stating that 'assistance to eclipse parties operating outside India in the same way as the Department helped the Eclipse parties of 1898 in India cannot be forthcoming on this occasion at the expense of the Indian Treasury'.

On receipt of Hills' memorandum a copy of it has been forwarded to the India Office and Foster has written again to say that he hopes the assistance may be forthcoming in view of the fact that it is not of a financial character.
