TitleCopy letter from Alfred Bray Kempe, to Sir Robert Giffen, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date28 November 1900
DescriptionReplies to a letter from Giffen querying several points to do with the Society's accounts: an apparent discrepancy regarding income, grant for extraneous publications, the temporary character of some of the sources of income entered in the 'Income and Expenditure Account'.

Does not share Giffen's anxiety about the security for the debts due to the Society from the Natal Government, International Catalogue et cetera, and does not think they ought to place any sums they are likely to recover as charges against revenue.

The question of defining the function of the Finance Committee will come up at the first meeting of the new Council when all Committees are appointed or reappointed and their functions defined.
