TitleCopy letter from Sir Michael Foster, to The Secretary to the Admiralty, Whitehall, S.W.
Date12 March 1901
DescriptionAcknowledges their letter informing the Royal Society that the Commander-in-Chief on the East Indies Station has directed the H M S 'Pomone' to take a party of Total Solar Eclipse observers from Colombo to Padang and back next May. Foster directs the Secretary to a letter sent on 11 February which outlined plans for the observers to go straight to Padang by steamer from England. However it would still be desirable to have the ship lying off shore to render assistance. Proposes that the ship provides accommodation for some observers and takes them to Penang after the Eclipse.
