| Description | Assumes that in his letter of the 22 July, the question he refers to in connection with the International Association is that which formed the subject of the report of a committee, appointed by the Council, which was called the British Academy Committee and that the discussion Lockyer refers to took place at the special meeting of the Royal Society on 9 May.
Harrison has the transcript of the speeches. Provides Lockyer with a verbatim resolution at the Council meeting stating that, while the body sympathized with the desire to secure corporate organization for the exact literary studies considered in the report, the Royal Society should not initiate the establishment of a British Academy. |
