TitleCopy letter from an unknown correspondent, to Ernest Howard Griffiths, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date[17 December 1901]
DescriptionDr H T Barnes's paper 'On the Capacity for Heat of Water between the Freezing and Boiling Points, &c', upon which Griffiths reported to the Sectional Committee for Physics, was passed for publication by the Committee last year but the paper's communicator, Professor [Hugh Longbourne] Callendar, was asked to make certain selections of the tables and figures. Callendar offered to add a preface and discussion of the method and results of the work and this was accepted by the Committee.

Callendar titles his contribution 'Continuous Electrical Calorimetry' and it would take about 80 pages of the 'Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]', and includes six figures. The estimated cost of publication is £45 and the total cost of Barnes' paper with Callendars's contribution is estimated at £135. The Committee has to decide if Callendar's recent communication can be treated for publication as a mere introduction or whether it should have a distinct place in the 'Philosophical Transactions'.
