TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Thomas McKenny Hughes, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date17 January 1902
DescriptionHas been handed a letter by the Secretary from Mr Ely to Mr H Yates Thompson referring to the grant of future issues of the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' to the Altoona Library. Is asked to say by the Treasurer [Alfred Bray Kempe] that the free list is already very extended, and in view of the claims upon it the inclusion of the Altoona Library would not be feasible.

Regarding Mr Ely's desire to receive the 'Transactions' published since 1887 as a gift, the financial position with reference to its publications precludes this. A gratis copy of the index is being despatched to Ely.

Reminds Hughes that as a Fellow he is entitled to purchase back volumes of the 'Transactions' at one third of the published price, provided the volumes precede the last five years. The library might be wiling to purchase the volumes in this way through Hughes.
