TitleCopy letter from Sir Michael Foster, to Sir Richard Jebb
Date5 July 1901
DescriptionAs Jebb is someone who has been concerned in the action of the Royal Society in respect to exact literary studies, Foster informs him the President and Council have deemed it undesirable the the Royal Society should initiate the establishment of a British Academy.

Foster offers his private interpretation, stating that he believes the Royal Society is unwilling to make any changes to its organization, or to take steps to include literary studies within the scope of its own work. If Jebb and other do set up a British Academy, they will have the full sympathy of the Royal Society. The Royal Society could assist by approaching the Government on the matter, but the manner of the approach would have to be considered.
